Holding Space for What’s Next
Mural in Shotton Community Hub

About the project
Bringing together ideas and imagery developed through workshops with the youth group at the hub. The mural begins with a young person daydreaming, before moving into that imagined world: a space filled with clouds, swimming figures, obstacles, play and moments of rest.
These scenes are inspired by activities at the centre, including the obstacle course, the daydreaming and drawing sessions we did together, and conversations about challenges, growth and hope for the future. The imagery reflects the way young people expressed themselves in the sessions, from flowers growing from the heart to a heart-shaped kite and swinging in the rain.
The colours are the ones chosen in the sessions. The hub is a warm, comforting place for the young people, and the palette reflects that, using the many warm colours the sky can be. The mural holds these shared experiences as a reminder that growth happens through trying, imagining and creating together.
