Holding Space for What’s Next - Shotton Community Hub

Bringing together ideas and imagery developed through workshops with the youth group at the hub. The mural begins with a young person daydreaming, before moving into that imagined world; a space filled with clouds, swimming figures, obstacles, play and moments of rest. These scenes are inspired by activities at the centre, including the obstacle course, daydreaming and drawing sessions we did together and conversations about challenges, growth and hope for the future. The imagery reflects the way young people expressed themselves in the sessions, from symbolic details like flowers growing from the heart, a heart-shaped kite and swinging in the rain. The colours reflect the feeling and colours that were chosen in the sessions, the hub is a warm comforting place for the young people and the colours reflect that, while also using the many warm colours that the sky can be. The mural holds these shared experiences as a reminder that growth happens through trying, imagining, and creating together.
