About the project
A collaborative mural, made both with the community and while mentoring an artist to create their first large scale mural for Spennymoor Mural Festival.
I mentored The Live Sketcher (Rach), who usually does live small scale sketches at events, to transform these into a large scale mural: how I work with community groups, how she wants people to feel when looking at a mural, and how her artwork can translate to large scale while designing for a specific site.
We held community sessions with Spennymoor Youth and Community Centre, working with the refugee group learning English and a coffee morning group. She live sketched members, I ran drawing sessions, and we chatted over tea and coffee with people who have been part of the community for decades and others who are new to the area. We installed the final mural together for the festival.
